About
A two-hundred-year-old wine estate turned 5-star Relais & Châteaux
Nestled between Montpellier and Castelnau-le-Lez, the Domaine de Verchant is a true 100-hectare green lung. Its origins date back over 2000 years: a Gallo-Roman villa already occupied the site, and in 1582 the bishop of Montpellier ceded the estate to Pierre Verchant, who bequeathed his name to it. Restored over five years by Pierre and Chantal Mestre, the former wine-producing farmhouse has been transformed into a manor hotel without losing any of its character.
A verdant gem nestled among vineyards, century-old cedar trees and plane tree-lined avenues
The park has obtained the "Jardin Remarquable" label. The terraced gardens, fountains, plane tree-lined walkways, hundred-year-old cedars, and the working vineyard compose a rare landscape at this distance from downtown Montpellier. We always have the feeling of being kilometers away from the metropolis, even though the tram serves Castelnau within minutes.
The hotel, the Marcelle restaurant and the spa
Member of the Relais & Châteaux collection, the hotel offers 49 rooms and suites spread between the historic bastide and a contemporary extension. The gastronomic restaurant Marcelle, headed by chef Alexandre Caillaud alongside double Michelin-starred chef Franck Putelat (MOF 2019), is listed in the Michelin Guide and Gault&Millau. The Verchant Spa spans 2,000 m² with an indoor pool, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, fitness room and eight treatment cabins (Valmont, Biologique Recherche, and KOS signatures).
# Sunday Brunch and the Outdoor Swimming Pool
This is the experience we recommend as a priority. Every Sunday, the open-air restaurant La Plage offers a buffet brunch (hot, cold, savory, sweet) with access to the outdoor pool surrounded by vineyards. Two options: lounger (€115 per person, brunch + pool access) or bed (€220 for two, brunch + pool access). Reservation essential.
Event hall, showrooms and office space
The estate hosts weddings, corporate seminars, and private events in several rooms and a hall that can accommodate large gatherings. An office and coworking space completes the offering for entrepreneurs and business leaders in the metropolis. The parking is sized to accommodate all activities without difficulty.
The vegetable garden and home production
The estate maintains a vegetable garden, part of the production of which is sold on site. The domain's wines, the fruit of the historic vineyard, are also marketed in the shop and served at the restaurant. This "living estate" approach is what makes this place so unique.

Alpaca Immobilier's Take
Verchant is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places we know at this distance from downtown Montpellier. Everything is impeccably maintained: the gardens, the bastide, the spa, the pool, the service. Sunday brunch remains our best recommendation to discover the estate without booking a night. For buyers visiting Castelnau-le-Lez or the Hauts de Massane neighborhood, it is also a strong selling point: having a Relais & Châteaux fifteen minutes from home changes one's social and professional life.
